Fabiano Parisi | The Empire of Light

The Empire of Light is an ongoing project developed by Fabiano Parisi beginning in 2007, focusing on the

aesthetics and mysterious beauty of abandoned locations, still having a soul, a meaning as vectors of layering

sensations and images that make them live, independent of our memory and our experience, creating a strange

atmosphere of expectation, bordering the surreal.

The aim is not to expose their dereliction, but rather to render the grandeur and magnificence of these spaces,

which are now forgotten and on the path to extinction, and thus seem to belong to a parallel world. The artist

was struck by shapes, lines and volumes when arranging his shots, but was mainly guided by light. Photographs

are marked by a rigorous quality, with a magic and symbolic contrast of light and shadow: light shining on the

grand architectures of a decaying empire, with broad areas of shadow and deep black hues, as if to evoke bygone

history and offer glimpses of a new one. The photographs were taken around the world: in the United States,

Poland, Belgium, Germany, UK and Italy. Yet, they do not constitute a kind of map of neglect: for what matters is

not so much the when and where, as the loss of the coordinates of these places that border on the surreal,

altering the perception and sense of time, which seems to have frozen.

FOTOGRAFIA – Festival Internazionale di Roma è lieta di annunciare i progetti selezionati per la Call for Entry 2012. La giuria     internazionale, composta da Marco Delogu (fotografo e direttore artistico di FOTOGRAFIA), Sebastian Arthur Hau (bookshop manager a   Le Bal, Parigi), Fabio Severo (critico e curatore del blog Hippolyte Bayard e di ZONA) e Massimo Guerci (direttore artistico Superegg), ha selezionato 15 fotografi tra cui 5 finalisti e il vincitore dell’edizione 2012. I 15 progetti selezionati saranno proiettati nel Museo MACRO Testaccio durante l’intera durata del Festival e menzionati sul catalogo di FOTOGRAFIA 2012.

Superegg, agenzia di comunicazione e marketing non convenzionale, realizzerà una pubblicazione con le migliori fotografie dei 15 finalisti della Call for Entry 2012 e realizzerà una mostra evento in collaborazione con FOTOGRAFIA nel suo spazio Sabato 22 Settembre a mezzanotte (Via dei Magazzini Generali 31, nei pressi del MACRO Testaccio).

Inoltre, alcuni tra i 15 fotografi potranno essere selezionati ed esposti nella sezione Giovani Talenti della fiera Affordable Art Fair (26-28 ottobre), che offre a fotografi emergenti la grande opportunità di mostrare e vendere le loro opere.

 

FOTOGRAFIA – International Festival of Rome is pleased to announce the selected projects for the Call for Entry 2012. The international jury, composed by Marco Delogu (photographer and artistic director of FOTOGRAFIA), Sebastian Arthur Hau (bookshop manager at Le Bal, Paris), Fabio Severo (critic and curator of the blog Hippolyte Bayard) and Massimo Guerci (artistic director at Superegg), has selected 15 photographers including 5 finalist and the winner of the 2012 edition. The 15 selected projects will be screened in the MACRO Testaccio Museum during the entire duration of the Festival and listed on the catalog of FOTOGRAFIA 2012.

Superegg, unconventional communications and marketing agency, will print a newspaper with the best pictures of the 15 finalists of the Call for Entry 2012 and create a one night show in collaboration with FOTOGRAFIA in their space on Saturday September 22nd at midnight (Via dei Magazzini Generali 31, near the MACRO Testaccio).

Moreover, some of 15 the selected projects could be included in the Young Talents section of the Affordable Art Fair (October 26th – 28th), which offers to emerging photographers the great opportunity to show and sell their work.

But people forget how many stories have gone by inside, and how many are still inside in these no one man land that silently keep on standing. Photographs are presented as dyptichs, to see how perspective and the significance of these places could change. With or without the human presence.
